Engineering Apprentice

The qualifications you need

You'll needs at least five GCSEs or equivalent at grades C or above, including Maths, Science (double award) and English Language or English Literature.

The qualifications you can earn

Engineering apprenticeships offer opportunities in both craft and technician roles. They usually entail three to four years of on and off the job training, undertaking the Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) qualification, Key Skills Level 2 (Level 3 in the case of technician apprentices) and a Level 3 NVQ appropriate to your choice of trade, that will prepare you for the workplace.

Craft apprentices can qualify as fitters, electricians, machinists and maintenance engineers, whilst technicians can complete in numerous business functions such as Systems Engineering, Design Engineering and Flight Systems.

Technicians are selected during the first year after a performance review, an academic review and an interview.

Business Apprentice

The qualifications you need

You'll need at least five GCSEs or equivalent at grades C or above, including Maths and English (Language or Literature). Experience in IT with a qualification is also an advantage.

The length of the apprenticeship

Business apprentices follow a structured training programme that lasts one year.

What the programme entails

The programme will give you an opportunity to specialise in functions such as Commercial or Project Management, with scope to include other support functions, such as HR.

The qualifications you can earn

Through on-the-job training, you'll work towards a number of qualifications including NVQ3 in Business Administration, Key Skills Level 2, a technical certificate in Business and Administration at Level 3, a Certificate in Project Management at Level 3, and also IT qualifications.

Engineering Apprentice

The qualifications you need

You'll need at least five GCSEs or equivalent (three must be at grades C or above), including Maths, English and a Science subject.

The length of the apprenticeship

An engineering apprenticeship usually takes between three to four years to complete.

How the programme is broken down

Our apprenticeships programme is based in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It offers opportunities to join a company that is a world leader in aerospace systems, in a craft or technical role, along with a unique software apprenticeship.

You'll spend most of your apprenticeship receiving on-the-job training, undertaking the Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) qualification along with an appropriate NVQ.

Your training will lead to a Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) qualification along with an appropriate NVQ.

Software Apprentice

The qualifications you need

You'll be working toward—or will have already achieved—at least three A Levels (or 100 UCAS points), of which at least one must be Mathematics, Science or Engineering.

The length of the apprenticeship

A software apprenticeship takes three years to complete.

What the programme entails

As a Software Apprentice you'll receive on-the-job training combined with external study leading to an Honours Degree in Applied Computing.

You'll be working with professional software engineers and gaining experience in areas such as:

  • Software requirements
  • Software development
  • Software architectures
  • Software certification
  • Software safety
  • Testing

During your apprenticeship you'll also get the opportunity to be involved in activities and training with the craft and technician apprentices.

The qualifications you can earn

Your training and study will lead towards an Honours Degree in Applied Computing.
