Diploma 14–19
The 14–19 Engineering Diploma is a qualification that offers you a flexible and creative way to learn.
As well as the practical, hands-on experience needed in the workplace, you'll gain a qualification that lets you continue studying at college and university, and which fulfills the educational requirements needed to enter a BAE Systems Advanced Apprenticeship.
The Task
At the centre of the Diploma is a task. Working within a project team you'll come up with an innovative design for an unmanned ground vehicle, to be used by rescue services worldwide.
As well as producing a specification, engineering data and manufacturing at least four component parts in model form, you'll identify the business opportunities for your product and provide health and safety guidelines for its production.
The task is made up of two units:
Unit 1: Exploring the engineering world
Look back at the role that engineering has played in history and consider the contribution of BAE Systems within this.
Unit 2: Investigating engineering design
Work as a project team to research and share ideas, before designing your vehicle and thinking about its uses.
