Warton Taster Week

Warton Taster Week Students Your Week, Your Future. Warton Taster Week, 11th - 15th July 2011, 18th - 22nd July 2011

Over the space of two weeks 40 students visited Warton site to take part in the Systems Engineering Taster weeks. The students were required to complete a project in teams which challenged them to develop a new fleet of front line fighters for the fictional nation of Dubali, also taking into consideration the requirements for through-life support and the development of supporting facilities. The week culminated in a series of presentations during which the students presented their results to a panel of judges. In between project time the students were given tours of the various facilities on site and introduced to the variety of engineering functions within the company. The combination of the tours and projects was intended to give an insight into the Systems Engineering discipline.

The weeks were incredibly well received by the students and were thoroughly enjoyed by the participants and supervisors alike. The participating students provided feedback of the weeks which was overall very positive:

“Easily exceeded expectations, very well planned and carried out”

“I loved the tours as we got a rare opportunity to see military aircraft production. But overall the project work was really interesting.”

“The leaders were not only responsible adults but a great laugh as well”

“It wasn't just something to put on my UCAS form.”

“Five stars, 10 out of 10!”

The Taster Week team would like to thank all those on and off site who supported them through giving tours, providing accommodation and catering, judging the presentations, talking to the students and generally helping to make the Systems Engineering Taster Weeks the successes they were. Finally a big thank you to the students themselves who maintained a very high standard of work and professionalism throughout the weeks, and who were a pleasure to work with.
