The case study demonstrates the effectiveness of power distribution, how electricity is generated, stored and transferred

The case study also shows what can happen when the system fails. It focuses on the power failures of North America and Canada in August 2003, and analyses the events that led to 50 million people being without power.

It also shows how system engineering plays a vital role in analysing such events and summarising the failures that led to it. Leading on from that it highlights the successes of the system and makes recommendations for improving the system.
